Imprint of print has got the never-ending association with the masses around the world since the inception of paper and ink. It was started somewhere only to advertise the information among targeted people. Slowly and calmly it became the part of nervous system of the world. Once a medium for Advertisement or dissemination of Information have transformed itself in Media and later it was called News Media which publishes printed or written content to masses.

Print Media includes Newspapers, Magazines, Classifieds, Circulars, Journals, Yellow pages, Billboards, Posters, Brochures and Catalogs.

Indian Print Media:

1870 was the year when first mass level communication was published by James Augustus Hickey in Calcutta. He published “Bengal Gazette” to publicize advertisement of Local products and in the course of time it gave a way for the birth of News-papers in India.

Now, more than 5000 Newspapers are published daily in nearly 100 languages in India. Nearly 150 of them are major publication.  Newspapers and magazines in India are independent and largely privately owned. Periodicals are also major part of Print media in India. The periodicals specialize in various subjects but the majority of them deal with subjects of general interest.

India has four news agencies:   Press Trust of India (PTI, United News of India (UNI), Samachar Bharti and Hindustan Samachar.  

Career and Scope in Print Media:

Contrary to expectations, the popularity of the Internet and television has not maligned the importance of the print media in India. It is still one of the most respected and trusted source of information for the public and continue to play a vital role in generating and shaping public opinion in the country.
